Plastic case. Very easy to assemble (screw-less).

Benchmarks

Samsung HM641JI on USB 3.0 (ASRock H77 Pro4-M)

Remarks

Downward spikes in the transfer rate graph (blue) seem to be hard disk related
Almost identical performance characteristics as Asmedia ASM1051 chipset

Samsung HM641JI (same model, different drive) on SATAII (internal)

Other Remarks

The included USB 3.0 cable seems to be very badly shielded as it interferes with Wifi 2.4 GHz. But it also might be the case or the USB 3.0 connectors.
